I have abandoned you for a while for the convenience of the Sarah Graham Photography facebook page. For those of you who haven’t “liked” the page, I periodically post “sneak peek” photos from recent sessions as well as news and updates (and the odd photo of my girls). Now that my season is in full swing, I’ll try my best to keep the blog updated!

Just a note that this month, I have portraits on display at the Victoria Hall in Petrolia (411 Greenfield Street). The photos are on display until the 27th (9am – 4pm and during show times).

And because no blog post is complete without photos, here are my two little “tree fairies” (as Lilah would say).

I arrived at the session worried about the (extremely) overcast day, but they had a wall of windows overlooking the river, and just enough light to pull off a lovely, window-lit session. Miss. H. slept like a dream, and then was alert for some photos with Mama and Daddy. She even gave me a few smiles (which always excite me!). Ryan and Jenny, thank you so much for inviting me in to your home, and for asking me to be a part of such a special time in your lives. I can’t wait to see Miss H. again!

I captured Sarah’s pregnancy as she and Matt waited for their little man, and then captured little Mr. M. just days after he was born. Now, M. is such a little ham. He was giving me smiles and blowfish through the entire session. He did not have one grumpy moment! It’s hard to believe that this session wasn’t too long ago, given the weather we have been having for these past few weeks. It seemed as if winter passed us by this year, but I’m happy that I managed to get a few snowy sessions!

I’m loving the light in these photos. If you are brave enough to get up for a sunrise session like these three did, I highly recommend it! Matt and Sarah, M. is so adorable and growing so fast!

The shots of Mr. B. with his gorgeous big sister just melt my heart, and Jen looks absolutely beautiful and so in love with her little guy. Hopefully the post doesn’t take too long to load (but I assure you it is worth the wait)!

B. was born post dates, and was bigger than many of the newborns I photograph. He was so alert, and only wanted to sleep while being held. I still did the traditional baby on a blanket shots, but most of the session, he was in someone’s arms – the ONLY place he wanted to sleep. It was actually very endearing and reminded me a lot of the way Lilah was as a newborn. She slept like a pro…as long as she was being held. She spent her nights on my chest, and her days being carried by daddy in the sling.

I love this session so much. It was so peaceful! My theory on newborn sessions is to just go with wherever the baby takes me. I try not to over-plan a session. I would rather take photos of a baby in arms that wants to be held, than a baby in a box anyway (although when a baby is sleepy and curly, and doesn’t mind being put down, those shots are a lot of fun!). Newborns are so used to being close to mama, spending nearly a year growing inside her womb. They want nothing more than to be held, and cuddled and to feel the warmth, safety, and heartbeat of another person.

These are the moments that you remember as a parent, and the moments that you long to have back as they grow. There is nothing in the world like the feeling of a tiny weight against your chest.

Jen and Mike, congratulations. Your family is so very beautiful. Enjoy your sneak peek, and give that little guy as many cuddles as possible. Before you know it, he will be squirming out of your arms when you want nothing more than to hold him close (believe me, I have two squirmy little ones that are constantly on the go!)

On the day of the session, their home was so peaceful, and Tara was so at ease with this new little life in her arms. So many first time mothers seem so unsure, so cautious, but Tara was a natural.

Tara and Cody, thank you for asking me to capture these moments with your newborn. G. is so beautiful and was worth every moment of the wait for him to arrive. Enjoy these photos, and enjoy your little man. He will be walking around in shoes with laces before you can bat an eye…

I have several maternity images hanging throughout her store. We host seasonal cross promotions and this fall, we did a giveaway to find the “Next Belly Babe.” Tara was the winner of this contest, which consisted of a wardrobe for the session (from Belly Babe, of course), hair  and makeup and a photo session from Sarah Graham Photography. We took these images at Tara and Brian’s home farm. It was another freezing evening, but we had a great time, and I fell in love with their property (and the little apple tree).

I played around with a toy lens a bit for the barn photos.

Tara and Brian, congratulations on the safe and healthy arrival of your little girl. I’m sure she is growing so fast and getting so many kisses!
